Economic Justice Council

YWCA South Florida Launches Economic Justice Council to Drive Inclusivity and Equity in the Workforce

Our mission is to eliminate racism and empower women, including in the workforce.

In an effort to combat the disparities seen among women and people of color, YWCA South Florida has launched the Economic Justice Council – a group of South Florida business leaders, who have already actively committed to racial justice, who will hold themselves accountable to rethinking their roles and informing solutions to create true workplace belonging and pathways to an inclusive workforce and economy.

The YWCA EJC will commit to a minimum of 6 meetings to learn, grow, and share every year. These topics of Economic Justice will include, but are not limited to:

  • Racial Justice/Implicit Bias

  • Racial Equity Institute Trainings

  • The Benefits Cliff

  • ALICE simulation

  • The hurdles of workplace belonging

  • Leadership in a time of unrest

The Economic Justice Council will:

  • Lead discussions of relevant economic justice topics, and publish a primer, for other industries who seek to grow their economic equity standards.

  • Inaugurate a recognizable YWCA Seal of Equity and Inclusion for other businesses and companies to achieve.

  • Create the pathway for 300 under- or unemployed persons, primarily women of color, to enter in-demand living-wage industries.

  • Economic Justice Workforce Pipeline

  • Through a multi-year collaboration of partners, funders and program expertise, YWCA placed 300 persons into the workforce over a three-year period. The program will effectively target and support underrepresented people in overcoming major systemic inequities issues which prevent them from fully engaging in financial freedom and economic justice.

Relive the experiences of our inaugural Economic Justice Council

The Economic Justice Council (EJC), supported by Kaufman Rossin and JPMorgan Chase, was created to clear the pathways for industries to maximize the most untapped workforce potential in South Florida: women of color. YWCA worked with decision-making leaders to understand the barriers to fully inclusive workplaces and industries. Leaders took an immersive journey through the real-life decisions working women face when striving to better their families economically.
