YWCA South Florida announces new 2023-2024 board
Miami, Fla. – YWCA South Florida has announced the addition of three new members to its 2023-2024 board of directors: Nikki Packer, CAP, senior philanthropic trust advisory specialist and senior vice president of Wells Fargo; Barbara Martinez, partner at Holland & Knight; and Margie Vargas, senior vice president and chief human resources officer for Memorial Healthcare System. The new board members bring invaluable experience and expertise in key areas to drive forward the organization’s mission-oriented impact. Packer, a career philanthropic professional, has worked with individuals, families and nonprofits in achieving their charitable goals through advisory services, gift planning, tax strategies and nonprofit management. Her 25 years of experience in resource development and philanthropy will bring insight to YWCA’s development and growth.Martinez is an experienced prosecutor with more than 20 years U.S. Department of Justice, working with complex federal cases, particularly in human trafficking, cybercrimes and crimes against children. Her anti-trafficking efforts have earned her the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service. She has spent her career standing up against exploitation of vulnerable communities, creating opportunities for individuals to be free and thrive. Vargas brings over 25 years of human resources experience. She is known for utilizing a "People First" strategy, spearheading the introduction of MHS’s inaugural Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and co-leading its Mission, Workforce and Culture of Inclusion subcommittee. Her passion and experience in driving progress within the workplace will bring unique insight to YWCA’s system-based work. “Our new members bring diverse expertise and perspectives that will advance our mission of promoting gender and racial equity,” shared Kerry-Ann Royes, president and CEO of YWCA South Florida. “I am thrilled to welcome these extraordinary and innovative leaders to our board.”Packer, Vargas and Martinez join 11 returning members of the 2022-2023 board. Kelly-Ann Cartwright’s term ended earlier this year, and the late Jason Jenkins left a legacy that continues to be felt.
