COMMUNITY JUSTICE CHALLENGE

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY JUSTICE CHALLENGE?

YWCA’s Community Justice Challenge is our FREE community-wide challenge, part of a national movement to understand how issues of race, power, access, and leadership show up in everyday life. This challenge is a daily journey of small but meaningful actions.

We believe each powerful step gets us closer to building a united South Florida where everyone thrives. The Challenge works to foster personal reflection, encourage social responsibility, and motivate participants to learn together, find and act on ways to address these issues. From reading articles, to listening to podcasts, to engaging in conversations about social issues that impact all of us, the YWCA Community Justice Challenge creates dedicated time and space over 21 days for participants to discover how injustice impact our community, connect with one another, and identify ways to dismantle inequities and other forms of discrimination

Whether this is your first step toward learning about justice and equity or you are leading the way in your circle, last year’s Community Justice Challenge, held May 13 - June 7, 2024, was full of new, actionable steps to creating equity and prosperity for all.

How the Challenge Works

YWCA’s Community Justice Challenge is a month-long community-learning session in which participants enjoy daily virtual learning experiences, such as reading relevant articles, listening to podcasts, viewing trending videos, reflecting on individual experiences, and other motivational opportunities. South Floridians can join as a group, a company or individually, but we will embark on this learning journey together.

Once registered, the participant will receive an email with links to join the Facebook group and more information.

Before the challenge starts on May 13, 2024, participants will sign up for the Community Justice Challenge emails. Once the challenge begins, they are presented with impactful challenges that populate over the four-week initiative, including:

  • Reading relevant articles

  • Listening to podcasts

  • Reflecting on personal experiences and more

The challenge is structured around four themed weeks. Participants will receive content each weekday over the four-week period.

Week 1: Bodily Autonomy

Week 2: Financial Empowerment

Week 3: Gun Violence

Week 4: Transportation

New content is delivered to your email each weekday and will include ideas to move forward and take action. Our Facebook group offers a discussion board space for participants to reflect, share and interact with others in a safe and respectful forum.

Participation in this experience helps us discover inequalities in our community and advance our understanding of equity and justice in everyday life.

This challenge is not about changing beliefs but about learning ways to change systems that currently leave groups of people behind. Together, we can find common ground to be good citizens who care for one another and our community. In a time when so much calls us to divide, let’s rediscover the collective power of unity.

Learn together. Grow together. Advance equity together.
